Academic regulatory update
UK 2026 deposit-limit implementation: RTS 12B academic guide
The Gambling Commission moved phase two from 30 June to 30 September 2026 after stakeholder feedback. This guide separates confirmed text from practical reading points.
2026
From 30 September 2026 operators must offer gross deposit limits, call that type “deposit limits”, and give it at least equal prominence to other financial limits.
The consultation response identifies RTS 12B. Only required gross deposit limits must use fixed time frames; additional limits may use fixed or rolling periods. For simultaneous periods, the most restrictive limit applies.
The Commission says offline annex copies saved before 22 May 2026 should be disregarded because an earlier version contained small errors.
Reader checklist
- Check that a gross deposit limit is offered.
- Confirm the period and most restrictive simultaneous limit.
- Use the current RTS 12 annex effective 30 September 2026.
Responsible-gambling frame
Limits are control tools, not a promise of safety. Set an affordable cap, never chase losses, and use time-outs or self-exclusion if control becomes difficult.
Does every financial limit need a fixed period?
No. The fixed-period requirement applies to gross deposit limits; additional limit types may use fixed or rolling periods.
